Ocean Career: Integral Consulting Inc. Coastal Scientist/Engineer

Integral Consulting Inc. is a science and engineering firm delivering sound technical solutions to meet today's challenges in the health, environmental, and natural resource arenas. Integral Consulting Inc. is currently seeking a scientist or engineer to join its Marine, Coastal, Climate, and Technology business area with an emphasis on coastal resilience.

The position will support multiple clients and projects, with the common theme of coastal resiliency including climate change and sea level rise assessments, adaptation planning, and coastal process and hazard modeling. The day-to-day work will vary and may involve geospatial analysis, data management, vulnerability assessments, statistical analyses, adaptation planning, hazard modeling, literature review, fieldwork, business development, and support on proposal and report writing.

Responsibilities

As a coastal scientist or engineer, your job functions will include, but not be limited to:

  • Climate change, coastal impact assessments, and adaptation planning
  • Conducting oceanographic and earth system data synthesis and analysis including geospatial analysis, empirical and numerical modeling to identify and quantify variability, trends, and predict geomorphic change
  • Contributing to or running quantitative models or mapping of results
  • Working with stakeholders and clients
  • Executing technical work and client deliverables.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold an advanced degree in oceanography, ocean or coastal engineering, management or other marine science field or 2+ years of experience in oceanography, climate or coastal sciences.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2+ years of professional experience in coastal hazards, sediment transport, and vulnerability assessments working in coastal or marine resource planning
  • Experience in hazards and coastal flood risk management
  • Experience with nature-based solutions and coastal ecosystem restoration for sea level rise adaptation and resilience
  • Familiarity with coastal modeling and mapping (Delft preferred)
  • Experience in scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB
  • Experience in CAD and/or GIS
  • Ability to produce maps or graphics that synthesize complex information or data
  • Familiarity with field measurements, instrumentation, and remote sensing (e.g., drone technology, GPS, sensors, UAS, etc.)
  • Project management experience
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A desire to grow both intellectually and professionally
  • Strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers

Compensation: $75,000 – $90,000
