Role
As a Principal Electrical Engineer at Corpower Ocean, you will provide technical leadership across the design, analysis, manufacturing, testing and certification across all electrical systems and subsystems of the wave energy converter (WEC) and CorPack technologies. Working closely with the Chief Engineer and CTO, you will use your strong grasp of fundamentals and industrial electrical engineering experience to support and guide the delivery of the critical electrical powertrain and grid connected systems.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Perform electrical system design work including power system analysis
- Be a principal technical authority on electrical engineering in the company and work with Electrical Group Lead
- Drive the team towards well-rounded technical solutions based on performance, safety, standards, cost and function
- Establish requirements for subsystems and components in electrical engineering, and interfacing areas
- Investigate new solutions to improve performance, reliability and cost
Project Delivery and Qualification
- Develop and review key deliverables including SLD’s, routing, load lists, protection studies, I/O lists and fieldbus design
- Ensure system compliance with marine and renewable standards from IEC and DNV
- Oversee full design lifecycle – from concept to detailed design, manufacturing, testing and commissioning
- Support supply chain activities including component and supplier selection, factory acceptance testing
- Support assembly, testing, troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of electrical systems in the field
Teamwork and Mentorship
- Liaise with Chief Engineer, CTO and coordinate with other teams including mechanical, systems, control, marine and more
- Mentor team members in fostering technical growth, best practices and tackling technical challenges
- Support risk assessments, FMECA and reliability analyses across the team
Technology Roadmap
- Keep up to date on technical state of the art, standards and design/cost improvement opportunities
- Contribute to company’s product roadmap and R&D strategy for next-generation wave energy
- Enable scalability from prototype to commercial systems
Qualifications and skills
- B.Sc. or a M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering or related discipline
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant electrical engineering experience
- Experience with a variety of electrical systems including Generators, Inverters, Batteries for grid applications, Control and Communication Systems.
- Experience with DNV certification is preferred. Other application-specific certification experience is meriting (e.g. aerospace, automotive)
- Experience with Inverter Based Resources (IBR) grid connection and compliance processes
- Experience with DC Distribution design
- Experience with Medium or High Voltage Systems, and related personnel safety
- Experience in Electrical Safety of Machinery
- Experience in Marine Environment applications.
- Experience with subsea electrical applications is meriting
