Position Responsibilities & Duties:
- Designs, manages, and analyzes applied ecological studies in benthic research and restoration, writes technical reports and scientific publications.
- Maintains a high level of professional expertise in scientific disciplines relevant to assigned projects. Supports research and restoration in associated estuarine systems. Attends training classes, seminars, conferences, and reviews scientific literature.
- Expands and secures funding related to benthic research and conservation initiatives.
- Presents at scientific workshops and conferences on benthic research and restoration projects.
- Environmental permitting of various projects.
- Assists other institution departments with research-based community outreach events and programs.
- Collaborates with government, non-government, and academic organizations and institutions on research and restoration programs and initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Research and Conservation and Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Master’s (thesis) degree required from an accredited college or university in environmental or marine science, and 4 years of professional experience in the environmental or a marine science related field.
- Must be skilled in scientific writing and editing; scientific data analysis using exploratory data analysis and statistics; design and implementation of applied research.
- Must be skilled in project management, time management, and organizational skills to assist staff with multiple projects simultaneously.
- Independent, reliable, and self-motivated worker.
- Knowledge of subtropical coastal ecosystems and organisms.
- Ability to lift, push or carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Endure harsh outdoor environments in uncomfortable/extreme temperatures for any and all activities, inclement weather, and remote locations.
- Current driver’s license required. Must be eligible for organization automobile insurance.
- Knowledge of relevant computer software programs (e.g., GIS, Microsoft Suite, Adobe).
- Statistical program experience is required.
