This position includes significant field work and successful applicants will have experience towing and backing trailers, operating survey equipment, working with motorized and non-motorized watercraft, and working safely in aquatic environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and implement aquatic invasive species control programs in the North Idaho region.
- Conduct field surveys to monitor and detect new aquatic invasive species.
- Collect and analyze data related to invasive species management and produce reports for stakeholders and partners.
- Oversee the operation of the region’s watercraft inspection and decontamination stations to prevent the spread of invasive species.
- Supervise and train watercraft decontamination staff, ensuring compliance with protocols and safety procedures.
- Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as private stakeholders, to develop and implement effective management strategies.
- Engage with the community through outreach and educational programs to raise awareness about aquatic invasive species.
Qualifications:
- Experience in aquatic invasive species management or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of aquatic ecosystems, invasive species identification, and invasion ecology.
- Ability to work comfortably in aquatic environments and conduct fieldwork, sometimes under challenging conditions.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with experience managing staff.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the region.
Compensation: $30 per hour
