Ocean Career: Georgia Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Technician 3

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is seeking to fill the position of fisheries Technician 3.

Under limited supervision, the chosen applicant for this position will serve as Northwest Region’s angler Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation Program (R3) representative. Duties will include developing and conducting fisheries related public outreach and education events in accordance with the Fisheries Section’s Angler R3 Plan. Position will also manage the technical support of research, surveys, fish kill investigations, and public waters management projects aimed at protecting, assessing, and improving river and lake fisheries in Georgia. Other duties include vehicle, building, equipment, and grounds maintenance, supplies and materials stocks, custodial care, administrative support and other regional support functions as required. Performs some weekend and holiday duty and assists with Department’s emergency response efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Management or a related field from an accredited college or university, or associate’s degree or equivalent coursework (90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours) in Fisheries Management or a related field from an accredited college or university
One year of experience required at the lower level Fisheries Technician 2 (NRT061) or position equivalent, or high school diploma or GED
Two years of experience in the Wildlife Resources Division as a Fisheries Technician 2 (NRT061).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Completion of an Associate Degree or higher in freshwater fisheries management
  • One or more years of freshwater fisheries management experience
  • DNR/WRD employment experience
