The successful candidate will lead the monitoring, assessment, and reporting of underwater noise in line with national and international obligations, including the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and OSPAR. Responsibilities include managing noise data, coordinating with stakeholders, designing monitoring programs, providing scientific advice, and contributing to policy and research initiatives. The role involves supervising staff, collaborating with external partners to address knowledge gaps, seeking additional funding where relevant, and actively participating in expert groups and internal teams to support the Marine Institute’s objectives under its Service Level Agreement with the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage.
Educational and Professional Requirements:
- A higher degree qualification in ocean acoustics, underwater acoustics, bioacoustics, acoustic signal processing or equivalent.
- Proven experience in project development, management, and delivery – including financial management and reporting.
- Operational experience with passive acoustic monitoring systems (PAM)
- Experience in handling large bioacoustics and noise datasets.
- Proficient user of relevant acoustic software.
- Demonstrated experience in monitoring programs for underwater noise.
- Demonstrated knowledge of marine ecology.
Salary range: €73,961- €90,198 per annum
