Ocean Career: University of Alaska Southeast Applied Fisheries Assistant Professor

The University of Alaska Southeast Sitka Campus invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Applied Fisheries position beginning August 2025. We are looking for someone with a strong academic background who can teach undergraduate academic courses and maintain a productive research/scholarship program. An interest in collaboration, teaching and developing courses in the areas of fisheries biology, fisheries management, and marine science is highly desirable. Consideration will be given for the position to have either a Bi-partite or Tri-partite workload.

To thrive in this position, faculty must be self-motivated and invested in the academic and career development of students. An ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and as part of a team will be advantageous. An ideal candidate will have experience working with a diverse student population, an understanding of how to develop compelling research proposals, and a desire to increase educational opportunities for students.

Desirable Characteristics:

  • The ability to contribute to relevant academic program and general education course offerings.
  • The ability to incorporate Indigenous perspectives into teaching and/or research.
  • Experience in teaching online and in person.
  • Ability to successfully support and enhance our campus commitment to cultural safety and nurture environments that promote belonging and respect for people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
  • Evidence of an active research program in an applied fisheries related discipline and an interest in collaborative, interdisciplinary research.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required (for Bi-partite consideration):

  • Master’s degree in a field related to applied fisheries
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses
  • Experience teaching laboratory or field courses


Preferred (for Tri-partite consideration):

  • D. in a field related to applied fisheries (ABD applicants will also be considered)
  • Evidence of, or clear potential for, acquisition of extramural funding for research support

Position Details:

This position is located on the Sitka Campus of the University of Alaska Southeast. This is a full-time, 9-month, represented, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
