Ocean Career: UP Junior Research Consultant

Join a leading coastal research team in one of the UK's most stunning marine environments. Based in the School of Biological and Marine Sciences at the University of Plymouth, you’ll support the Coastal Marine Applied Research (CMAR) consultancy within the Coastal Processes Research Group, specialising in coastal modelling and data analysis.

In this role you will:

  • Deliver numerical modelling tasks on coastal hazards and hydro-/morpho-dynamic processes.
  • Process and interpret data; produce technical reports.
  • Support project planning, logistics and client engagement.
  • Work closely with Senior Research Consultants and academics.
  • On-site working is required 3 days per week. A full manual driving licence is essential.

What We’re Looking For:

Essential:

  • Right to Work in the UK for the full contract.
  • MSc in coastal science/engineering, oceanography, environmental science or related field.
  • Experience with coastal/marine modelling tools (e.g., SWASH, SWAN, Delft3D, XBeach, SFINCS).
  • Strong MATLAB/Python skills and experience with QGIS.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in fieldwork, technical report writing, data analysis, or consultancy/research environments.

Salary: £35,608 to £38,784 per annum
