CO₂ is constantly in flux between the atmosphere and aquatic environments, making the air-water interface an important area of study for researchers investigating carbon cycling, coastal processes, and changing aquatic environments. By measuring both sides of this interface, researchers can gain a better understanding of the CO₂ gradient and the processes influencing its movement.
Designed for Flexible Monitoring
The Solu-Blu CO₂ Exchange was developed to give researchers greater flexibility in where and how they collect CO₂ measurements. As monitoring moves toward smaller platforms and more distributed deployments, instruments need to fit the realities of those systems without sacrificing the measurements researchers need.
The Solu-Blu CO₂ Exchange is designed to capture CO₂ measurements from both the atmosphere and surface water. The system combines a submerged CO₂ sensor with an atmospheric air intake, alternating between surface-water pCO₂ and atmospheric CO₂ to provide a paired view of the two environments. This allows researchers to examine the relationship between water and air CO₂ and investigate exchange across the interface.
Its compact design and low power consumption make the Solu-Blu CO₂ Exchange well suited to applications with limited space and power. Real-time RS-232 output and onboard data logging also make it straightforward to integrate into autonomous platforms and existing monitoring systems.
This flexibility opens the door to a range of applications, from freshwater and coastal environments to drifter buoys, small autonomous surface vehicles, and mCDR (Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal). Whether deployed on a single platform or as part of a distributed monitoring network, the Solu-Blu CO₂ Exchange provides a new way to bring air and water CO₂ measurements together in the field.
A New Addition to the Product Suite
The launch of the Solu-Blu CO₂ Exchange marks an important step forward for Pro-Oceanus. Over the years, Pro-Oceanus has focused on developing dissolved gas sensors that provide researchers the flexibility to collect the measurements their work requires. This newest addition builds on that commitment while creating new possibilities for air-water CO₂ monitoring.
The company is excited to see where researchers take it—from freshwater systems and coastal environments to autonomous surveys and emerging carbon monitoring applications. The Solu-Blu CO₂ Exchange is built to make CO₂ monitoring more accessible, more adaptable, and easier to deploy.
