Ocean Career: Scottish Association for Marine Science Polar Oceanography Researcher

The Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) is seeking a physical oceanographer with an emerging track record in high latitude/polar oceanography. The post holder will join our strong multi-disciplinary teams working primarily in the sub-Polar North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, and with linked Antarctic interests. The post is open-ended and part of SAMS’ long-term commitment to Polar Oceanography.

For the first three years the postholder will deliver an exciting program of Arctic physical oceanography under projects already funded by UKRI-NERC (UK Research and Innovation-Natural Environment Research Council) and RCN (Research Council of Norway), which include fieldwork in Greenland and Svalbard.

The postholder will immediately join the BSc Marine Science undergraduate lecturing team to co-deliver and then lead an introduction to physics module for marine science.

After the initial three-year funded research program, the postholder is fully expected to pursue promotion to Lecturer, and to seek research funding to establish themselves as a Principal Investigator at SAMS. SAMS is a partner of two UKRI-NERC Doctoral Training Partnerships into which the postholder may bid for PhD studentship funding.
