Ocean Internship: OceanX Science Intern

OceanX is a mission to support scientists to explore the ocean and to bring it back to the world through captivating media. Uniting leading media, science, and philanthropy partners, OceanX utilizes next-gen technology, fearless science, compelling storytelling, and immersive experiences to educate, inspire, and connect the world with the ocean and build a global community deeply engaged with understanding, enjoying, and protecting our oceans. OceanX is an initiative of Dalio Philanthropies, which furthers the diverse philanthropic interests of Dalio family members.

Position Summary:

OceanX Science, the research and technology pillar of OceanX, seeks an intern to help shape and execute the scientific objectives of OceanX for the summer 2024. This internship may be remote for a portion or all of the internship term at employer's discretion. This program will run from June through August. This is a full-time opportunity involving 40 hours per week. As an intern at OceanX, you will contribute to our mission by helping your pillar complete key projects and tasks. You will lead independent projects with the support of your team, in addition to shadowing and contributing to higher level initiatives that have a significant impact, while growing and gaining professional exposure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research expedition locations, scientific topics of interest, and technology especially as they pertain to ongoing and upcoming expeditions for 2024 science and philanthropic collaborative goals
  • Prepare memos and reports on different scenarios for expedition locations and activities, including potential partner institutions and individuals
  • Assist the Science Team in documentation tracking, reporting, and collating for mission-pertinent planning and post-mission reporting
  • Contribute to OceanX Science website maintenance through ideation, metric tracking, and site layout
  • Support the Science Team in creating ArcGIS story maps content for science communication and OceanX website design
  • Create a post-mission analysis of data collected, samples acquired, and publication tracking to be submitted end-of-summer as part of post-mission reporting and curation of our existing Notion report repository
  • Assist the Media and Marketing & Communications teams in external branding initiatives including communicating the scientific achievements of OceanX and collaborators in memos/briefs/outreach designed for the OceanX website
  • Collaborate with Data team to create a Science Mission Dashboard tracking all metrics and KPIs related to expeditions

Qualifications:

Professional Attributes

Currently working toward a B.S. in Marine Science, Marine Technology, Oceanography, or related field of Strong research and writing skills, including ability to synthesize complex topics. Knowledge of the Microsoft Office. Suite

Compensation:

Compensation for the role consists of a $20/hour wage. This position is eligible for statutory benefits only.
