NSU is currently seeking to fill the position of Senior Ocean Engineer. The incumbent will oversee the maintenance, operation and pre-deployment configuration of all equipment in the Physical Oceanography department’s inventory, including but not limited to:
- Teledyne RDI ADCP current meters
- Rutter, Inc. WaMos II X band radar wave and current measuring system
- SeaBird Electronics Inc. CTDs and Data Loggers
- Webb Research Teledyne SLOCUM G3 Autonomous gliders
- Geometric 824 Cesium magnetometers
- Teledyne Benthos acoustic releases
- Campbell scientific data loggers
- Assists in sourcing and purchasing equipment.
- Participates in and provides regular support during regular offshore day trips to deploy and recover subsurface moorings using vessels of opportunity.
- Provides support at other out-of-state experimental locations.
- Works with graduate students and helps train them in the operation, maintenance, and data retrieval techniques.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to handle small craft in open water.
- Knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Database and data entry skills.
- Ability to utilize or learn to utilize software relevant to the research program, new research methods and, work routines quickly.
- Ability to attain required certification for applicable research program or project.
- Ability to read and comprehend reports and other scientific literature.
Compensation: $85,000.00 – $100,000 annually
